Hālau Makana will be performing at Rock Wall Wine Company this Saturday, April 28, in celebration of their “Wine Lu’au.” The lu’au and wine tasting will run from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. You can still purchase tickets. The women of Hālau Makana will perform two dances at 2 p.m. and two more dances at 3 p.m. Come out to eat, drink, watch live performances, and enjoy the warm weather in Alameda!
The women of Hālau Makana took second place in the Ahuroa competition at the 33rd Annual Kiki Raina Tahiti Fete March 23-25 in Merced, Calif. Five women from Hālau Makana took the stage Friday evening and performed a number composed by Kumu Lani Cid-Iulio. In the solo competitions, Julissa Otenbriet took third place in the 10-12-year-old Beginner Vahine Category, and Makana Iulio advanced to the finals in the 13-15-year-old Advanced Vahine Category.
The annual competition is the longest running Tahitian dance and cultural festival competition outside of French Polynesia.
